keeping your edge
When testing new equipment I usually return to me test garden, this allows me to find the best setting for artifacts at different depth. The most recent test garden consist only of lead balls of the same dimensions, starting at 5cm and going to 50cm below the surface with a spacing of 1 meter apart. After burial of the lead balls I marked each location plastic landscape pin with the depth of the lead ball incised on the top of the pin. I created a form that allows the user to record the reactions of the metal detector, this included metal detector type , soil conditions, target located (yes/no) and the target ID number for each find. I will start posting the results here so keep your eyes out for a follow up post.
